Testimonials from
Teacher Grant Recipients:
Marichi Santos-Fragoza, on behalf of the Entire 3rd Grade at Buford Elementary
used the grant to create a hands-on science lecture series with scientists (STEM)
“This grant allowed us to continue to enrich our students’ lives and give them this rare opportunity to access knowledge that experts, such as scientists, can provide! We may not have much financially, but we strive to give our students a rich curriculum. We never have opportunities to create and/or implement hands on science experiments due to lack of funding and/or expertise. But we understand that science is where our students can be inspired to pursue diverse careers that also lead them to understand the importance of education.”
Maria Ayala, 3rd Teacher at Buford Elementary
used the grant to create a hands-on science lecture series with scientists (STEM)
"Thank you for the wonderful opportunity of creating Scientists in our classrooms! Our students had a magnificent time learning about the spectrum of colors and its effect! They were delighted to learn about light having all the rainbow of colors, and about how certain animals see light differently! The students did a color blind experiment to help them understand this process and also created a battery circuit which enhanced their understanding of light! Without your support, this couldn’t had been possible!"
Stephanie Ceja, 3rd Grade TBE Teacher at Buford Elementary
used the grant to learn about lights and their properties (STEM)
"In an age where science programs are being cut or under-funded, "MadScience" programs provided an unequaled science enrichment lesson, and encouraged my students to discover the world around them and to possibly pursue careers in science. As you can imagine, my students looked forward to this project. With your grant money we were was able to provide hands on science lessons for 6 third grade classrooms. I am so appreciative of your support through L.E.A.F. Again, thank you for your support."
Ruben Garcia & Luisa Vasquez, 1st Grade Teachers at Moffett Elementary
used grant to create and publish students' original bilingual short stories
"We would like to thank the L.E.A.F. organization for it’s generous grant. It would not have been possible to have all 40 Lennox students receive a copy of their published book if it were not for organizations like L.E.A.F that give back to the community. Parents and students were very excited to know that they will receive a free book and asked me to thank L.E.A.F on their behalf. Our Lennox students were extremely proud of their writing and illustrations. When we as educators motivate and praise students’ achievements I believe it only strengthens our students self esteem and creates a successful pathway for future. In closing, we would like to remind the L.E.A.F organization how valuable your contributions are to the community and their impact our Lennox students."
Aaron Fong Music Teacher at LMSTA
used the grant to take his students on a field trip to the Grammy Museum
"The trip was a wonderful success and I would like to thank you tremendously for the opportunity to do something with the students that was not possible before. We have many talented musicians, some of whom are sincerely interested in pursuing a career in music, whether it be as a performer, producer, engineer, or other professional. Having the opportunity to see, first-hand, some of the artifacts and to experience some of the historical and industry-changing moments was truly an eye-opener for our students."
